Hi, Here we are on this cold Monday. But, of course, it is warm and happy in our room. We have had such a busy day. We started our day by making life sized papers dolls of ourselves. We will change the clothes based on the weather; warm clothes for cold days, etc. At least that is the goal!!! We then made vegetables and fruits from playdough. For our cooking expedition, we made pizza soup. We mixed chicken boullion with water, added tomato sauce, and some spagetti sauce seasoning from a packet and stirred well. We then used our scissors to cut up our pepperoni slices. When the soup was done, we added the pepperoni and shredded cheese. They did at least taste it. The students thought it was too spicy. Oh well, everything one tries is not a success.
We, later, played store and shopped for food with pennies. After that game was finished, we tasted some of the food. I thouht they would hate the grapefruit, but I was wrong. Cade acted like it was the best thing he had eaten.
While we were reading our Bible story of the Good Samaritan, I glanced up and Jake had climbed on top of the highest shelf in our room trying to reaching a ball. I screamed and quickly jumped up to grap him. I finally coaxed him into just listening to the story. We pretented a doll was the wounded man the Samaritan helped and we played like we were the Samaritan man and took care of the man's wounds. We wrapped him in guaze and placed bandaids on his booboos. We then took him to an inn and made a bed for him. Stay tuned. Mrs. R

Hi, I've been on the computer getting ideas for tomorrow's class. I think we will make pizza soup. That sounds like something preschoolers would eat. I don't actually have a recipe. We'll just make it up as we go. I am going to try to set up a store with various fruits and vegetables and give them a shopping list so they can purchase items and pay at our new cash register Tara picked up for us. Sounds like Monday will be an exciting day. I have one eye on the weather as I'm sure all of you do. I certainly hope and pray we don't get ice. Snow, we can manage, but ice does so much damage; maybe we won't be cold enough, hope, hope. I'll let you know how Monday goes. Stay tuned. Mrs. R

Hi everyone, Thanks to Amy Reece our blog has a great new background. Doesn't it look nice; we really appreciate all your help. I think you will be adding some photos soon that will show our expedition into kitchen utensils which would have been a disaster if Jake's mom hadn't appeared that day to volunteer. We are so happy she didn't have to work that day!! Everyone enjoyed beating colored water mixed with liquid detergent with various items such as wisk, rotary beater, and spoon. Then we blew into a straw and created mountains of bubbles. Next we discovered that shapes are all around us, even in food. We cut vegetables in half and painted them to make shapes on our paper. A potato is an oval, a carrot is a triangle, a cucumber slice makes a circle, and a celery stalk makes a semi-circle. Thank goodness, Jake's mom was around to help clean up that mess.
On to our next project. We used our kitchen utensils to mix a chocolate cake which we then baked in small pans shaped like stars; we see shapes everywhere!!
After rest time, we enjoyed our cakes with a nice glass of chocolate milk.
We have been learning the Bible story parable of the Good Samaritan. We wore masks and acted out the story. Today, Thursday, Amy volunteered to teach the class because I could not be there and she directed the students to make compassion rolls. A wonderful use of an old toilet paper roll. The students were directed to give the finished roll to a special person in their lives. To make the rolls Amy placed the roll on tissue paper and tied one end with ribbon. Then they filled the roll with Hershey's hugs because everyone can use a hug. They included band aids to help heal any booboos their friend might have. They included a small Bible and praying hands picture to remind their friend to pray and read the Bible. Thanks Amy. Stay tuned.

preschool news
Our blog has finally surfaced again. School has been on and off due to the weather, cold and/or snow. We all had a great Christmas and are glad to be back at school on the days we are able to attend. Our class has been happy to welcome Sarah's mom as a substitute for me on the days I cannot be at school. She is also Mrs. Reece, since she is married to my son, Ragan, and has been the preschool teacher at ACA several years herself. She is not currently teaching preschool because she is finishing her degree at Union College. She should graduate in the spring. We are so thankful that she is able to help out while she is waiting for her classes to resume.
Our class has really been working on letter sounds and putting them together as words. Several of the students are beginning to read three letter words. We are also working on writing our names. There is much improvement in our printing. More soon. Mrs. Reece

December 9
Hi parents and friends, We have officially caught Christmas fever. We are all climbing the walls. Let's see. Devan's mom brought a small aquarium with two small goldfish. Devan managed to put his candy in it yesterday so the water turned green. This morning he added a Ritz cracker to the mix. He's only three so we let him by with more but I see dead fish in our future. Today we made reindeer cookies. They were so cute. Take a Nutter Butter cookie and squirt vanilla frosting from a plastic bag to make eyes and a nose and a spot at the top for antlers. For the antlers we used heart shaped pretzels, the eyes were chocolate chips, and the nose was a red M&M. The kindergarten and first grade joined us and everyone had a great time. We are now having rest time. HA. More like wiggle time. I have them rest for an hour, on good days. No one is going to sleep. We are going to practice our part in the Christmas program in a few minutes so we better get up and have snack. Tomorrow is going to a movie day. We are so excited. Let you know how that goes. Til later, Mrs. R

update
I can't believe it's been almost a month since I have posted news. I guess I have been really busy. It is now Dec. 2, and I am writing from school. It has been a crazy day. We started with chapel and the Family Feud game. The teachers vs. students. Needless to say, the students won, with some help from the teachers!!!! Whoever heard of helping your opponents win??? Then we came to our room and started the day wrapping empty boxes to put under our tree. Each child wrapped his or her own box. Then we tied ribbons around the boxes. I thought they would be good decorations for the month. Not so; at lunch the students decided to play gift giving and they ripped them open. Some people had to sit at the table with their heads down because of the mess that was made. We then painted our foot white and stamped our print on paper to make an angel body. Then we painted our hands blue and placed them on the paper for the wings. I have to get some glitter tonight and we can finish them tomorrow. We practiced making A's because A is the beginning of Angel. That went well. Next was lunch and cleanup. Cade, Sarah and Devan all ran the vacuum. It is warmer today, 50ish, so we went outside for a little while. After playdough time, we are on our mats watching Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Jake and Jotham are asleep. I think the fresh air helped them to go to sleep. At 2 we will get up for our snack and organize our belongings for the trip home. Tomorrow will be Jotham's last day at school. He is moving to Texas. We will really miss him.
